Apple builds their OS with a lot of software from FreeBSD, but when they opensource FoundationDB they don't provide a distribution that will work on it. I know the license says Apple doesn't have to do anything, but it just seems wrong that they didn't provide a download.

- protomyth 9y agoI don’t see FreeBSD listed.
- rurounijones 9y agoBased on your earlier comment I guess you think that Apple owes the FreeBSD community a version of FoundationDB that will work with it because apple uses FreeBSD technology. I make no comment on the validity of the stance but I think you are probably in the minority. However since it is now open source at least it is possible for someone to do the work to get it on FreeBSD at least.
- wolfspider 9y agoIt's probably similar to GRPC just changing the compiler over to Clang in the Makefile like so: https://github.com/wolfspider/grpc-freebsd-examples/blob/master/routeguide/Makefile https://github.com/wolfspider/grpc-freebsd-examples/blob/mas... Maybe these two would go good together? ;)
- jaboutboul 9y agoI’m sure one will be shortly forthcoming. They did a good job up actually putting up the code quickly following (in parallel) with the announcement.
- tzakrajs 9y agoTruly they would be better off with GNU.
