Do we know where/how Apple uses FoundationDB in production ?
- endlessvoid94 9y agoMy first thought was...iCloud?
- ifcaselet 9y agoiCloud is an umbrella term for several different systems.
- endlessvoid94 9y agoRight. All I'm saying is that FoundationDB is underneath it somewhere.
- optimuspaul 9y agoI had always assumed they acquired the team more than the ip. I'm not sure this confirms that or not. I'd be curious what the answer to this question is as well, but wouldn't be surprised if the answer was "they don't"
- rudedogg 9y agoMaybe CloudKit? I was looking at the documentation for it recently and it's a key-value store.
- dunham 9y agoCloudKit is using Cassandra/Solr: - http://www.vldb.org/pvldb/vol11/p540-shraer.pdf http://www.vldb.org/pvldb/vol11/p540-shraer.pdf
- yoda_sl 9y agoFrom what I have heard, CloudKit is an API abstraction either of Cassandra/Solr and more recently Foundation DB. So new CloudKit codebase nowadays is being run on top of Foundation DB
- nlavezzo 9y agoWavefront's co-founder just tweeted this: https://twitter.com/panghy/status/987022825457266689 https://twitter.com/panghy/status/987022825457266689 Finally it's out! @WavefrontHQ managaes petabyte scale clusters with #foundationdb today!
- kbumsik 9y agoI'm confused. How they could use FoundationDB when Apple aquired it a long time ago? Did apple sell the software to other companies?
- panghy 9y agoWe worked on the codebase independently (we have escrow). We run petabyte-scale clusters in aws.
- nlavezzo 9y agoFoundationDB was a company that existed in the market, licensing our database technology for quite a while. Licenses don't necessarily terminate upon acquisitions.
