- justin66 9y agoPeople are sensitive about Godwinning but you didn't really deserve to be downvoted for that comment. Rand's Objectivism and Hitler's mind droppings have at least two important things in common: they're derivative of Nietzschean existentialism and they've been used to rationalize varieties of political extremism.
- musage 9y agoWriting that "changed the world" isn't philosophy or worth reading for insight just because it changed the world. You can make that point with anything that sucks or isn't philosophy but "changed the world", Mein Kampf being one of them. As for Godwin, as any discussion gets longer (infinitely), the probability of any comparison "approaches 1". That should net a few coins to buy ice cream, not minting a "law". Reading people like Erich Fromm, Arno Gruen, Sebastian Haffner, Hannah Arendt, I look around the world I live in, consider the cute idea that Nazi comparisons aren't allowed for a few moments, and move past it.
