Even though my degree certificate says "....Software Engineering", I usually refer to myself as a Software Developer. Mostly to avoid any tedious arguments with mystic folk that have sacred oaths and magic rings. But it is noticeable that when a commercial lift/elevator or Espresso machine develops a fault, people quite casually say that "an engineer is on the way" and nobody bats an eyelid. Don't most software bugs require a much deeper diagnosis and more elaborate fix?
