Food ties are strong. I'm lucky ebough to live in a region with great local fare....donut shops, burger joints, fast food mexican / chinese, mexican bakeries, sushi, boba... Most of them are practically interchangeable, but en masse they create a regional food identity and were I to move away, I'm sure I would feel a longing similar to yours. (also, there are plenty more 'yuppie' (read 'gastropub', 'artesenal', 'fusion', etc. spots that are good, but it's a bit harder for me to feel such an attachment)
