- btown 9y agoThere is a subtle difference in that the Obama campaign obtained consent from the friend who volunteered their subgraph to use that data for political purposes, whereas Cambridge Analytica’s academic sources obtained no such consent from anyone. One could argue that the distinction is less meaningful as Obama’s usage was not very well informed consent. But it’s a distinction nonetheless. And beyond that, Facebook has no incentive to expand the scope of their PR problem by advertising this lesser known fact. As the tweet cites, Facebook was politically biased in a specific enforcement action in the past. That does not itself indicate that there is any political reasoning behind the decision not to release an Obama tool today.
