Polyester fibers absolutely get washed off clothing and drained out into the ocean (they're too small to be filtered in most cases).
- smsm42 9y agoThis is however not the plastics the article is talking about - at least not the one that was a problem for the whale. The article says "plastic bags, nets, ropes, plastic sacks, and even a plastic jerrycan" - not a nanometer-scale fibers.
