- ReverseCold 8y agoThis was my first reaction as well, but I've met people IRL that seriously believe that the Equifax hack is more important than Facebook's tracking. This is definitely a discussion worth having.
- jerf 8y agoYou say that like it's some sort of impossibly silly idea? I have to admit to not being entirely certainly how to score it myself, because in terms of direct damage the Equifax is worse, but in terms of what is corroding society Facebook is worse, and it is not immediately obvious to me how to compare the two radically different vectors. The idea that the only possible reason to believe one side or the other is that one is in direct pay of a nation state spreading propaganda is probably one of the more anti-intellectual things I've heard this week. Or something like that. Don't have a great word for what this seems like to me. But it's definitely a "what???" moment.
- ReverseCold 8y agoGood points. I guess they are very different situations that can't be compared easily.
- kazagistar 8y agoWhy now though? And why facebook specifically? Are we going to bring in google for gasp reading our emails?
- throwajay2000 8y agoGoogle will get called in if Trump manages to win in 2020.
- tudelo 8y agoWell the latter is obvious to anyone with a healthy dose of cynicism and knowledge of what facebook is. The former is something you could not figure out on your own. The fact that someone is so incredulous to state that you have to be a russian propoganda pawn to think twice about the importance of these events is really scary... I guess we can thank american propoganda for the success of "russian propoganda" then...
