America is so stuck in legacy tech. Nobody checks signatures. Strong Factor Authentication requires min 2 of 3. India is leapfrogging to biometrics using Aadhar. Europe is current with chip and pin. America is in quill pen stage
- 05 9y agoChip and pin isn't current; CDCVM is. Some european countries are still lagging on that front.
- sourcesmith 9y agoHaving to buy your own till is progress?
- xPhobophobia 9y agoIronically, increasing security like this is at the cost of privacy. Biometrics are nearly the last source of private data not fully tapped.
- chiph 9y agoYeah, I'm not going to support biometrics. The very last thing I want is to have the data identifying my iris pattern stolen.
- vorpalhex 9y agoBiometrics are terrible, especially if they ever become compromised. You can change a pin code or a password much more easily than you can change your eyeball or fingerprint.
- artmageddon 9y ago> America is so stuck in legacy tech. Nobody checks signatures. The USPS sadly still forces credit card users to have signatures on the back. They don't check signatures against the PIN pad / signed receipts, but the clerk will either yell at you or refuse the transaction if you have "Ask For Drivers License" on the back of the card. This has happened to me on more than one occasion.
- jandrese 9y agoYou might just have one particularly anal Post Office.
- artmageddon 9y agoNope; happened in Boston and NYC. They have signs up at each one specifically saying they want a signed credit card.
- hliyan 9y agoI'm a bit surprised you're citing Aadhar in a security related discussion, especially after recent revelations about privacy breaches.
