Arno Schmidt's Zettels Traum (Bottom's Dream in English) is a mammoth book originally written entirely with a collection of 130,000 index cards. [0][1] The book's title is German wordplay referencing the medium which Schmidt wrote the book on ("Zettel") and Bottom from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream ("Zettel" being the translation of Bottom's name into German).
