Maybe it's possible to develop in a more modular fashion which will reduce your compiler demands. This may not apply to you as you're doing Android dev, and I'm doing theoretical computer science, but when I adapted so that 99% of what my computer does is manipulate and store UTF-8 I found I could work perfectly well with the resources of an approximately £170 Chromebook running crouton.
