Yeah I'm surprised others haven't mentioned raspberry pi. Electronics is hard - esp building good quality electronics is hard - but its disappearing as software eats the world. If you're on HN you can probably code already, rpi is a great way to start with software and gradually add more eletronics for robots or sensors etc.
