This is like saying a grocery store should be exempt because it sells newspapers
- danso 9y agoI think it's a little more nuanced than that. Google Search provides access to news articles which themselves aren't not subject to withholding/deleting this historical information. If Google Search were ordered by the government to delist one news site over another, that would almost certainly be seen as an attack on freedom of the press.
- notatoad 9y ago>This is like saying a grocery store should be exempt because it sells newspapers well, yes. or are you saying a grocery store should have to read every article in every newspaper they sell to ensure it doesn't contain information that legally should be forgotten?
- lotu 9y agoWhat if grocery stores where required by law to evaluete people’s claims that articles about them should not be published and then remove those articles from the newpapers it sells (though newspapers sold directly to consumers were still unedited). You might presume that the grocery store (if it had the resources to handle this burden) would have to make journalistic decisions about if it sould allow or densely every single request. This is almost exactly like what Google is claiming.
