The answer is for the server to be your phone.
- QasimK 9y agoI agree. Unfortunately I think that’s practically impossible given battery constraints.
- eeZah7Ux 9y agoUnless we want to stream movies and music from our phones, most asynchronous text-based communication is extremely lightweight. A truly p2p/f2f messaging / social platform that uses only text can get away with kilobytes of data per hour if you think about the amount of text the user is capable of typing and reading.
- ocdtrekkie 9y agoWhat happens when you lose your phone? Something you take out and about and that someone can easily steal or can easily be damaged or lost is not a good server.
- jacquesm 9y agoYes, but you should have a backup anyway. The bigger problem will be connectivity and bandwidth costs in case one of your posts gets hit by a site like HN.
- _greim_ 9y agoFor that to be viable, we'd need an unprecedented compression algorithm to work around bandwidth and storage limits. But yeah, then we could basically have a second, decentralized internet.
- ytjohn 9y agoPied Piper is working on that.
- kodablah 9y agoDisagree. Too ephemeral. Answer is for server to be at home, accessible from anywhere with your phone.
