Self driving cars have absolutely no business being any road/lanes that is not purposely made/reserved for self driving cars. Period. Self driving cars need an ecosystem made for self driving cars. It's frankly madness to think otherwise.
- neolefty 9y agoWhat if they improve safety on shared roads but aren't perfect?
- dannyw 9y agoIf they are unable to avoid blatantly obvious yellow and black barriers / safety cushions and their algorithm is a simple "follow the whitest white line", then they should not be on shared roads.
- neolefty 9y agoAgain, they mostly do. Same with human drivers. By the same logic, should nobody drive?
- igammarays 9y agoAbsolutely. It shouldn't even be that hard, with the billions that are being thrown at the tech. They should be spending time and money to upgrade specific highways and certify specific routes as "safe for automation", rather than trying to test their cars on the entire North American road network with millions of crazy edge cases. Over time, these certified routes will grow into their own network.
