I think names are important. CockroachDB and GunDB both chose names that will hurt their acceptance. I often wonder how intentional it is for open source projects to choose strange names (GIMP, etc). Is it a defense against having to fit in with "mainstream" perspectives? Also, I wonder why Apache doesn't change their name. It would be a good opportunity for rebranding.
