Starting their own label is biting the hand that feeds them, though. They need the libraries that the major labels have in order to stay in business. Perhaps when they're not competing as heavily with Apple and to a lesser extent Google they could start their own label and the major labels would just have to deal with it, but I don't think it's a realistic course of action until then.
