“Better” for the environment doesn’t justify eating it just for the flavor. It’s still a net negative for the environment. Just say it’s healthier.
I didn’t think I needed to say it but I was mainly referring that you still need to slaughter the cow and calling it guilt free.
- KozmoNau7 9y agoLess meat eaten means less animals need to be slaughtered, though.
- coldtea 9y ago>I didn’t think I needed to say it but I was mainly referring that you still need to slaughter the cow and calling it guilt free. There's no guilt in eating meat. Or shouldn't be. That's part of nature.
- dh89 9y agoAh, the classic appeal to nature fallacy. The most shallow and ignorant justification for animal abuse. I feel so sorry for humans addicted to animal products and who don't know why, then have to use fallacious and obviously illogical reasoning to pacify their own guilt and confusion. When it's simpler, more efficient and obvious we should be eating plants.
- coldtea 9y ago>Ah, the classic appeal to nature fallacy. There's no fallacy here, because there's no reasoning that needs to be involved. Some animals eat meat. Humans are among those animals. Period.
- devmunchies 9y ago“Can” eat it and “must” eat it are different. Leo Tolstoy – A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral
- KozmoNau7 9y agoI'm immoral in a lot of other ways, too. Morality is a purely human artificial construct.
- grzm 9y agoIs it? Taking this perhaps too far afield (and I'm spitballing here), but what would it look like to observe morality in animals? I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I can imagine there are examples of social animals punishing each other for "bad behavior". Would that be an expression of morality?
- KozmoNau7 9y agoIt's not an addiction, it's a balanced diet, which may or may not contain animal products. Stop twisting words, it's not helping your cause. We're not guilty, we're not confused, we know what we're doing, and have decided we're OK with doing it.
- devmunchies 9y agoFor me it’s not eating meat that’s bad (although I don’t do it), it’s the current state of things with the meat industry (The fact that there is a meat industry at all is like a dark mirror episode). The animals are treated as a product, always optimizing efficiency over ethics. It negatively impacts the quality of the meat as well (from the antibiotics and stress).
