I have been a user for years so I have a license, but I set someone else up with it in the recent past and used iCloud to sync. There aren’t different versions of the software so I’m 99% sure anyone can sync how they’d like. It makes some amount of sense, by now they have picked up most of the tech savvy crowd and for the average user hearing a list of sync options is intimidating.
