I'm a Brit and would love the same policy here.
- dmode 9y agoSeriously? How does a visitor coming to see Grand Canyon take away a job from American ?
- scottybowl 9y agoMy bad, I thought this was for work visas.
- scottybowl 9y agoActually, after reading the article, this doesn't mention tourist visas so my previous point is valid
- nbdev 9y agoThis is why I hate HN. Someone here has an opinion that doesn't toe the line and instead of asking about the opinion, instead of considering he might be right in at least some way, we downvote to oblivion. Bunch of assholes, really.
- s73v3r_ 9y agoBecause their "opinion" is straight trolling. Not every opinion deserves respect. And I notice you didn't ask about the opinion, but rather just started complaining about everyone else who wasn't in the mood for their bullshit.
- scottybowl 9y agoHow is having a different opinion trolling?
- curiousgal 9y agoBecause you are all over the thread complaining about immigrants stealing jobs when, obviously, that is not the point being discussed here.
- scottybowl 9y agoI'm just asking questions
- s73v3r_ 9y agoHaving a different opinion isn't trolling. But that's not what you're doing here, and most members of this board are intelligent enough to see through your petty screeds about illegal immigrants.
- nbdev 9y agoThere are no "petty screeds." You're imagining things, just like you're imagining that most people want illegal aliens in their country.
- nbdev 9y agoWhat "petty screeds"? You're imagining things, just like you're imagining that most people want illegal aliens in their country. An opinion goes against your indoctrination so you cry out an accusation.
- nbdev 9y agoSay it like it is: their opinion goes against your indoctrination so you cry out an accusation. I didn't question him and I didn't downvote him either. You are mixed up. I'm the one calling bullshit here.

- oldcynic 9y agoWell as the article says it's for "applications for all visa types" can you enlighten me how this would help with giving Brits or Americans a better chance of employment? Any corporate bringing people in under a skill-based exception is unlikely to be affected - they already game the system, that they helped create, significantly. Any potential overseas worker wanting to emigrate will just add "make a FB, and Twitter account" to their to-do list alongside get a degree. Social media accounts are not exactly rare things. Would you be happy for the subjective judgements to be required against everyone's (including natives) social media when applying for a job, bank account, holiday, or travelling?
- scottybowl 9y agoI agree - people lie, cheat and play the system to get what they want. Define the sorts of people you want to give visas to. So which is it - the American government is super competent and tracks everything and everyone, or they're super incompetent and can't tell a social media account has been created for the purposes of getting a visa?
- s73v3r_ 9y agoIt does absolutely nothing of the sort and you know it.
