>The department estimates it would affect 710,000 immigrant visa applicants and 14 million non-immigrant visa applicants, including those who want to come to the U.S. for business or education, according to the documents.
this will hurt business. this will hurt american companies. this will hurt the country.
this will not catch any terrorists. this will not catch any serious drug traffickers. this will not be socially useful.
i can't make it any more clear.
the more this country outwardly projects "we're a police state, and people from other countries are unwelcome" the more isolated we will become and the more backward our peers will find us to be, and rightly so.
- roywiggins 9y ago> the more isolated we will become and the more backward our peers will find us to be Unfortunately, the same strain of thought that is pushing these measures is quite happy with us being more isolated and worse regarded. They think being isolated is manly virtue; that acting in concert with the international community is feminine weakness. Being liked implies that we give something away; being hated implies that we get what we want. Hence cries of "globalist cucks!" and so on. Isolation is Strength.
- scottybowl 9y agoExcellent virtue signalling..
- roywiggins 9y agoAnd your contribution to the discussion is...?
- scottybowl 9y agoMore than your contribution of idle parroting of the current trend of creating division between the sexes and races. Why does an opinion need to be masculine or feminine?
- ceejayoz 9y ago> Why does an opinion need to be masculine or feminine? Uh, that was the point of the comment you called "virtue signalling". It was critical of the idea that international cooperation is "feminine weakness".
- scottybowl 9y agoWho said that international cooperation is feminine weakness other than the guy who wrote it? Having a thought doesn't make it a reality.
- roywiggins 9y agoThese people are calling their ideological opponents cuckolds and yet I'm the one creating sexist divisions?
- scottybowl 9y agowhich people?
- lovich 9y agoI could almost agree with you post above this one, but "cuck" has been a meme of the alt right since the run up to the 2016 US election. You are either being disenguous or have not seen enough of the current grass roots politics to be speaking so authoritatively
- rconti 9y agoNothing of any value was ever communicated with these stupid buzzwords.
- bduerst 9y agoPlease don't bring these snarl words into HN discussion. They're shallow dismissals that violate the community comment guidelines. https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Social_justice_warrior#.22Virtue_signalling.22 https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Social_justice_warrior#.22Virt...
- scottybowl 9y agoI couldn't disagree more - this focuses on giving Americans a chance to get employment before anyone else. What's wrong with that? I'm a Brit and would love the same policy here.
- dmode 9y agoSeriously? How does a visitor coming to see Grand Canyon take away a job from American ?
- scottybowl 9y agoMy bad, I thought this was for work visas.
- scottybowl 9y agoActually, after reading the article, this doesn't mention tourist visas so my previous point is valid
- nbdev 9y agoThis is why I hate HN. Someone here has an opinion that doesn't toe the line and instead of asking about the opinion, instead of considering he might be right in at least some way, we downvote to oblivion. Bunch of assholes, really.
- s73v3r_ 9y agoBecause their "opinion" is straight trolling. Not every opinion deserves respect. And I notice you didn't ask about the opinion, but rather just started complaining about everyone else who wasn't in the mood for their bullshit.
- scottybowl 9y agoHow is having a different opinion trolling?
