I know pg doesn't open all of the code, to prevent HN from being games by spammers or karma whores. It wouldn't surprise me if the YC-related post gets a bump - HN was created as part of YC's desire to be exposed to hackers, so that's probably 'fair'. Just one of many theories I suppose.
- pg 16y agoYC-related posts don't get bumped up. The reason for the disparity is that the Santorum post is being pushed down. But I don't want to go into the details of why, because these mechanisms would be gameable to some extent if known. I'm also going to kill this post, since the guidelines explicitly ask that questions about moderation be emailed to us rather than asked in posts on the site.
