For search, I've found searx.me (or one of the other instances: https://github.com/asciimoo/searx/wiki/Searx-instances https://github.com/asciimoo/searx/wiki/Searx-instances ) to be a nice alternative, and you can have it (anonymously) pull results from Google, so you still end up with usable search results.
