Why is the resolution so low?
Why is the FPS so low?
Why don't we see the IR/LIDAR footage?
Was the brightness adjusted after the fact to look favourably?
Why didn't the vehicle issue a full stop once the woman was clearly visible?
I feel PR handled.
- danso 9y agoThe case has just come under NTSB investigation. This is not at all the sum total of information that will be revealed. https://twitter.com/NTSB_Newsroom/status/976215176323194880 https://twitter.com/NTSB_Newsroom/status/976215176323194880

- cesarb 9y agoMy guess would be that this is an off-the-shelf dashcam, completely independent from the self-driving cameras and sensors. Being an off-the-shelf dashcam means extracting and publishing the video from it is easy, which is why it came out first. It also explains why it has video from inside the car; many off-the-shelf dashcam models have both a forward-facing and a backwards-facing camera. Personally, I'm more annoyed at the blurring of the telemetry data at the bottom of the video. What was blurred probably included the dashcam model, date/time, GPS coordinates, calculated speed, and so on. The output from the other sensors might take more work to extract and convert into an understandable form, if they are even available after the fact; they might be immediately used in the control loop and then discarded, instead of being stored.
- cozzyd 9y agoSome data is probably stored for diagnostics, but Uber is the one company you'd most expect to have a "delete in case of incident" procedure.
- djsumdog 9y agoThis makes the most sense. It's probably a redundant system: off the shelf dash cam not connected to anything but power. The police could easily extract the sdcard. The actual car data will need to be collected and released by the NTSB and will probably come in a few weeks.
- make3 9y agoYeah, with the massive amounts of money involved, and with Uber's well known less than perfect ethics, I'd be extremely skeptical of the video
