Companies choosetoencrypt.com sends information to by embedding them in this page:
- Facebook

- sheetjs 9y agoIs it technically possible to add an image/link like "Find us on Twitter" without embedding anything that ultimately requests a Twitter-hosted asset?
- Sir_Cmpwn 9y agoYes, you can. But if your message is that social media networks are "privacy villians" then you shouldn't have a Twitter or a link to it in the first place.
- confounded 9y agoGood point, but for people that will have a link anyway, it at least makes service-use consensual.
- rhizome 9y agoThat's nice of you to set standards for everybody, but it's still possible to exercise identity separation. FB doesn't know what my Twitter account is any more than HN does.
- thwarted 9y agoHuh? Find us on twitter And host twitter-dot-png yourself. (edited to remove autolinking)
- kakarot 9y agoIt is exceedingly rare in practice.
- Felk 9y agoHere's a screenshot of umatrix, showing that it tries to load javascript from those domains: https://imgur.com/bvZzZsX https://imgur.com/bvZzZsX
- arca_vorago 9y agoI wish webdevs would stop this bullshit yesterday. "Bbbut, everyone does it. It's industry sop..."
- godelski 9y agoI always love that argument. Because it reminds me when I was 5 and my mom said "Just because everyone else does it doesn't make it right." If your argument is one that a 5 year old is making, you might need to reconsider.
- zeth___ 9y agoIf you're not paying, you're the product. Until we outlaw a way to make money, expecting people to morally not use it to is extremely naive. Something a 5 year old would expect in fact. There is a reason why we have police, courts and jails after all.
- Retra 9y agoIf you are paying, you might still be the product. Companies have plenty incentive to double dip and extract profit from multiple directions.
- dictum 9y agoYou don't get to a 100M+ net worth by following the virtuous advice of your parents.
- drngdds 9y agoLiterally no one needs a hundred million dollars
- arca_vorago 9y agoThat statement is a thesis paper waiting to happen.

- godelski 9y agoPrivacy badger only lists: Twitter, Facebook, and Linkedin as trackers. Though I see that it is using google APIs, but PB doesn't think it is tracking. Though interestingly the DDG app says "3 trackers blocked" and only shows twitter being blocked.
