The Coming Generation May Not Use Social Media at All
- gt_ 9y agoMost of my friends loathe social media and only use it in fear that if they don’t, they might be less attractive to potential employers..
- forkandwait 9y agoHow does that work? Github style contributions, LinkedIn profiles, or some sort of activity trail of planning dinner with friends on FB?
- gt_ 9y agoMost of them are in creative careers or advertising.
- bigphishy 9y agoLinkedIn is the exception, but I do my best to avoid all others corporate run due to the predatory practices against users.
- frfl 9y agoLinkedIn isn't an exception either to predatory practicies. One of the most shocking things I've witnessed my self is them scraping personal information from a google/YouTube profile and suggesting connections based on that data (I'm assuming they use some techniques to do so of you're signed into Google and LinkedIn in the same browser session)
- Nokinside 9y agoMaybe that's something that marketing people, SEO optimzers and PR people should have. At least for me having Github page, Jypyter notebook, Goodreads profile or something similar and no FB or Twitter profile sends a positive signal.
- drdeadringer 9y agoBesides the likes of LinkedIn, what do you mean? Is "Show us your Facebook Twitter Reddit" still a thing? Yes, I am a bit under a rock.
- roymurdock 9y agoThe article has no data. Here’s an article with data which says young people are the most frequent users of social media http://www.pewinternet.org/2018/03/01/social-media-use-in-2018/ http://www.pewinternet.org/2018/03/01/social-media-use-in-20...
- dfps 9y agoThe article isn't about the current situation, but about the possible response to it, right?
- phyzome 9y agoBull. They might not use public social media quite so much, or demand end-to-end encryption. But social media is here to stay.
- dfps 9y ago"is here to stay" because what?
- Dirlewanger 9y agoA bunch of wishful thinking. Too many companies have too much to lose from the mobile market.
- dfps 9y agoIsn't there a difference between the mobile market selling products and users investing time, energy and their persons on public online platforms?
