This is one of the advantages of using 'aptitude' to install software rather than 'apt-get'. Removal takes care of unused dependencies. Beware, mixing 'apt-get' and 'aptitude' used to cause some issues, such as trying to remove software that wasn't installed with 'aptitude' (although it always asks first). I think this has been fixed in recent versions but I'm not sure.
