I think the whole point is to get away from "Android." The average Apple (iOS) user will see "Android" and not bother to give it a try. They see "Wear OS" and they might try it. The audience is not just tech users.

The average Apple user is going to use the equivalent Apple product. Wear OS by Google sounds like a big bag of nothing to anyone who ISN'T a tech user. At least using "Android" associates it with the platform.
