MS Word is part of the interoffice workflow ; a formal word document has a predefined and deliberately inflexible template, it goes though several iterations of edits and approvals. Features like Track changes , templates and WYSIWYG enable organization to efficiently create reliable documents. Markdown is awesome but it is not an alternative to MS Word.
