Anyone else feel that with Tesla’s production issues that Musk is spreading himself too thin? The optics on all of these side projects are not good. It’s hard enough to do one thing well.
- khazhoux 9y agoMaybe Musk himself doesn't matter much. If he installs good captains at each venture, he can play more of a Chairman role. He inspires, sets direction, and applies macro-level adjustment.
- dchuk 9y agoMusk is a marketing expert. Every time bad news is about to come out about one of his core businesses, he has some new distraction to push. I say this as a guy who admires him a lot, but it's plainly obvious that he knows how to control the narrative to divert attention away from business problems. It's very intriguing to watch.
- Apocryphon 9y agoHe's not too different from the current President in that regard.
- icc97 9y agoI agree a lot of this is a good distraction from the Model 3 problems. However I wouldn't call him an expert more of a natural. Experts use carefully chosen examples based on a lot of research. I can't see how launching his car into space or selling flame throwers based on a clip from Spaceballs require careful thought to come up with the idea. These are pretty great in hindsight but coming up with and pushing through these ideas are not without a big chance of looking like an idiot. I'm reconning at the moment though that a second hand model S might be a better bet than a model 3
