Not just unfair/ungrounded, but incorrect as a matter of usage: "hoi polloi"[0] means the exact opposite of what you're using it to mean.

- DoreenMichele 9y agoYup, I took Greek in college. I am well aware that it originally meant the people and has come to mean the exact opposite -- the high falutin types. My Greek professor covered that ironic history. The possibility for misunderstanding is part of why I usually avoid the expression. But I will leave it. I think people here know what I mean by it, and never mind the opening for pretending I don't have a point because we don't agree on this one term.
