I'd be on board with you if we were talking about cars falling apart or actual maintenance. UX in radio receivers drive me crazy every day. Slightly non-symmetrical gaps in hardware I don't look at? Not really ever. And you'd think the latter would tell you something about maintenance costs. Maybe it does in aggregate? But I've had expensive lemons and beaters that withstood anything, and vice versa, it just really depends.
