I don't really believe the government is capable of the foresight necessary for massive long-term (multi-generation) conspiracies, but stuff like this makes me feel like they might be doing one. The goal of government and corporations is to grow larger. Ultimately they want to create a generation that looks to them for everything: financial assistance, security, housing, love, friendship, belonging, etc. With that in mind, a decrease in physical affection is huge, making us scared of one another is step one. Divide the population into manageable individuals, break apart the family structure, erode self-reliance, squash independence, isolate us from one another and convince us that what we need can only be found through them, not eachother.
