Enterprise Wifi access points have nanosecond resolution timestamps (necessary for RTT based positioning) since several years. Consumer class wifi radios are only precise to the microsecond. So 802.11mc capable devices will apparently gain nanosecond resolution?
If I remember correctly from the research I did for my Wifi positioning project in university RTT shouldn't be much better than RSSI in real environments. Could improve fancy fingerprinting based machine learning though. An API to set the wifi radio to monitor mode and collect all MAC addresses and corresponding RSSIs on the ether would be more advantageous for precise positioning.
