Should a beginner follow SICP method to learn CS?

I am 33yrs/young. Not sure i am telling you my age, figure never too old for anything. I have recently started learning CS - not necessarily programming. I am hearing a lot about SICP, but it seems like a dying method to teach CS as i can't find any courses that teach this way. There are people who lament over its death. Should i abandon this method of learning CS? what is the optimal method of learning CS that maximizes depth of understanding?
