- byoung2 16y agoIt's be cause a year is about 365.24 days. That means every 4 years we add a day, but that actually overcompensates, so every hundred years or so we skip a leap year: Years that are evenly divisible by 100 are not leap years, unless they are also evenly divisible by 400, in which case they are leap years.[1][2] For example, 1600 and 2000 were leap years, but 1700, 1800 and 1900 were not.
