This isn't true. What we got for it is Face ID and the consequential removal of the home button which then allowed for the frameless design.
Not saying it's ideal. But the author has missed the point slightly.
- joshstrange 9y agoYeah, everyone hates it so much that a ton of android phones being released this year have their own notch... It really does just fade away for me, I don't notice it anymore
- TremendousJudge 9y agoand the essential phone, that had a notch before it was cool
- duncans 9y agoI see it not as a notch but some bonus bits of screen for the clock and signal/battery status.
- hammock 9y agoSamsung S8 has face ID and no home button...
- adamscybot 9y agoThat's just facial recognition via an image, not a 3d IR scanner. As well as that, it effectively has a "full width" notch at the top.
