The condition itself is often (though not always) caused by a recessive mutation, which consanguineous marriages--ever popular in Pakistan--significantly increase the risk unmasking:

- smellyindian 9y agoIndeed it is an unfortunate term for the large number of people afflicted by micro-encephaly in certain regions. I originally wrote "mouse children", but then google referred to "rat children" and so I edited my comment for easier googling.
