Ask HN: Any aspiring developers want a mentor?
I had a really hard time finding a job after completing a coding bootcamp, and I know others must be enduring the same challenges. Companies are starving for engineers, but don't want to take risks on unproven talent, nor train someone and have them leave for more money once they can carry their own weight. I needed more guidance and more direction than I had access to. Well, now that I've made it out the other side and found a great SE job, I want to help others get jobs much faster so they don't have to go through what I did.
What I'm hoping to provide:
1. Direction towards what you need to learn and resources I
found valuable.
2. Someone to ask questions when you get stuck.
3. Occasional code reviews.
4. If I have multiple mentees, then I can connect you together so you can work on group projects.
5. General job hunting and career advice.
What I'm hoping to get out of this:
1. Network connections in the industry.
2. Help my company recruit hidden talent.
3. Social connections.
What I DON'T want:
1. Your money.
I live in Silicon Valley, so preference will be given to people who are local, but I think I can mentor people remotely. I hope that my mentees will eventually be able to mentor people themselves, and we can build out a large network that we can all use to advance our careers and even find startup cofounders.
