I'm a consumer as well. I actually just bought a Nest thermostat and the Google Store experience is just as good as Amazon. Free shipping. I don't get the complaining.
- dpark 9y agoThe big problem is the lack of interoperability that this encourages. No Amazon Prime in Chromecast. No Google Play on Amazon Fire. No integration with Alexa and Nest. The petty squabbles hurt the customers’ experience.
- nodesocket 9y agoI don't think we can call multiple billions of dollars petty squabbles. Both companies view their home automation and smart devices as critical products. You can add Apple HomePod to the mix as well.

- dpark 9y agoI wasn’t aware there was integration there. I’m probably just wrong about that one.
- clintonb 9y agoAlexa can control Nest, yes: https://nest.com/support/article/Nest-and-Amazon-Alexa https://nest.com/support/article/Nest-and-Amazon-Alexa. That skill would be hard to get rid of, unless Amazon explicitly forbade access to Nest APIs.
