Android devices should skip the iPhone X notch, not embrace it
- babaganoosh89 9y agoIMO the notch looks better than the S9 with an edge to edge screen but 2 black bars top and bottom.
- mikelward 9y agoThe essential phone's camera cutout looked cool in product shots. But the iPhone cutout seems too intrusive to me.
- throwahey 9y agoI was initially bothered, particularly with the rounded corners. However since the X has nearly the same size display as the plus phones, really the area that is rounded off is just extra pixels. I'm not missing out on anything by having rounded corners, or the notch, rather I am gaining the extra display area over the plus phones. That changed my attitude about it.
- shinratdr 9y agoThank you! I'm glad someone else has acknowledged this. Making a true edge-to-edge phone is impossible, and the notch IMO is the more aesthetically pleasing of the two options. The Pixel 2 is another great example. Supposed to be edge to edge, but just looks almost-there-but-not-quite in practice.
- nugi 9y agoThere used to be a good reason to copy apple, but I am still struggling to find a recent phone with basic features. Battery, headphone jack, memory card, wifi, security updates.
- dlhavema 9y agoi miss the memory card
- brokenmachine 9y agoLots of phones available now have a microSD slot. Removable batteries... not so much.
- noir_lord 9y agoI'm happy with my G5 Plus. Decent battery life, nice screen, headphone jack, didn't break the bank and it doesn't look like it cost considerably less than half what a top tier phone does, camera isn't awesome but it's good enough and tbh I don't use it much. I'd buy another if I broke it tomorrow.
- mikelward 9y agoI like the idea of making it a permanent status area, or just completely off when viewing a fullscreen movie. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DJjBaK5WsAEKOAH.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DJjBaK5WsAEKOAH.jpg Not sure how that would work with phones with a white face, but those seem less common.
