I'm sorry but this is so clearly a much better step in the right direction. As slick as the 'buy me a coffee' site is and as nice as Patreon is, I can't help shake the feeling that it's only a matter of time before the company goes under, or they sell my data, or they engage in other shady shenanigans. I would trust a 'buy me a coffee' site so much more if it were managed by somone like Sir_Cmpwn with a FOSS backed system. I wish we would start moving more towards FOSS infrastructure. Why FOSS isn't the norm, especially for systems dealing with money, is beyond me.
