I think what this article misses is the fact that for some people it is both fun to produce the videos (like a hobby) and that the income is nearly 100% passive. At least for my dad who has his own YouTube channel both of these things hold true. He has one or two videos which have gone viral (6 million views for the biggest one). His best ad revenue income was around £700 in a month. Its not give up the day job money but it is definitely better than nothing. I'm sure many of us dream of having a passive income SaaS business generating that kind of money.
