"Nazi numerology"? How's that a thing? We have already started banning words, so now start banning numbers just because some braindeads use them instead of banned words? Please, stop.
- DonHopkins 9y agoYes, Nazi Numerology is a thing. Google it. Apparently 88 means something special to Dylan Roof: http://www.thestate.com/news/local/t108eh/picture25100788/alternates/LANDSCAPE_1140/dylannroof10 http://www.thestate.com/news/local/t108eh/picture25100788/al... http://www.insideedition.com/sites/default/files/images/2015-06/10875.jpg http://www.insideedition.com/sites/default/files/images/2015... https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/01/10/dylann-roof-sentencing/96412218/ https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/01/10/dy... In another bit of symbolism, Richardson reminded the panel that Roof carried 88 hollow-point bullets into the church. The letter “H” is the eighth letter of the alphabet, and 88 is often used in white supremacist circles as a reference to “Heil Hitler.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAnUzTcp6ew https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAnUzTcp6ew Is Dylann Roof Obsessed with 'Heil Hitler' Number '88'? The number 88 appears to be drawn into the sand by the accused church massacre killer Dylan Roof. Vanderbilt University anthropology professor Sophia Bjork-James tells INSIDE EDITION, "The number 88 is used by white supremacists."
- kbart 9y agoSo what? The killer must have wear shoes, so should we ban shoes now as well? I understand what these numbers might mean in some circles, but I just don't follow logic why the rest of us would care. After all, Streisand effect kicks in if we try to limit usage of certain numbers.
- DonHopkins 9y agoBad analogy: Dylan Roof wasn't obsessed with shoes. You are confusing me calling for a ban on a number (which I'm certainly not) with me suggesting AMD marketing consider not using a number associated with White Supremacy with their GPU whose name is already one letter away from the spelling of Nazi. I'm not trying to overturn the First Amendment, I'm simply suggesting that a private company might want to avoid using a name and number combination that resonates with White Supremacists. But if you want to name your GPU "Hilter-666", go right ahead. It should be up to the market, not the government, to decide if it's profitable to do that.
- kbart 9y ago"Dylan Roof wasn't obsessed with shoes." And if he was, would you propose Nike stop marketing their shoes? It's probably another US-centric thing I will never understand, like skipping 13th floor or plane seat number. P.S. we have already derailed this discussion deep off-topic, so I will not continue any longer.
