I don't get it either. I recall using it a few years back to build a simple in-browser OSM widget on top of Leaflet. It was a fairly enjoyable experience. I remember that once my code compiled without errors, the widget just worked. The only explanation I have is that it's just a "normal" language and doesn't really have a strong differentiating point unlike Rust, Elixir, etc.
