If potential users are running on Mesos, streaming data from Kafka and writing results to HDFS, they're presumably not that worried about relying on Apache Foundation managed software. Not to say that this project won't die - most projects do, but I think the "where projects go do die" stereotype is unhelpful. ASF is probably the best chance a project has to move beyond the control of a single company.
