Bias? Selective rule enforcing? Both links are high quality technical reports. There's clearly a feature for PAST submissions on each HN link.
- grzm 9y agoFrom the FAQ (https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html): > "How are stories ranked?" > "The basic algorithm divides points by a power of the time since a story was submitted. Comments in comment threads are ranked the same way." > "Other factors affecting rank include user flags, anti-abuse software, software which downweights overheated discussions, and moderator intervention."
- nosuchthing 9y agoRight, so moderator intervention... which still leaves those questions.
- grzm 9y agoThe prior discussion was from 42 days ago. From what I've observed and seen mentioned, normally if the previous discussion is from a year ago or more, then it won't be marked a dupe. If you think something was done unfairly, the best way to get an authoritative response is to email the mods via the Contact link in the footer.
- ThomPete 9y agoIt's a dupe.
- kristianp 9y agoPlease don't put 4 spaces before urls, the HN software doesn't make them into links if they are pre-formatted like that.
- nosuchthing 9y agoGood point, sorry.
- dang 9y agoThe answer is in the FAQ, appropriately enough: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html.
