current levels of approximately 9-12 grams per day
That seems like a lot. I'm pretty sure I don't use so much, even if I like salty food compared with people around me.
I do know that salt comes with a lot of prepared food, but most of it has been considerably reduced. And I don't eat much prepared food anyway.
So if it's a real number, someone must be eating spoonfuls of salt to raise the average :)
- JumpCrisscross 9y ago> I'm pretty sure I don't use so much Two teaspoons of table salt are roughly 12 grams [1]. [1] http://www.traditionaloven.com/culinary-arts/cooking/table-salt/convert-tea-spoon-tsp-to-gram-g.html http://www.traditionaloven.com/culinary-arts/cooking/table-s...
- narag 9y agoThat's correct. I've just actually put ten grams in my hand and it's as much as I thought.
- tetraodonpuffer 9y agoif you eat cheese you might be surprised by how much sodium it has, and bread can easily be several hundreds of milligrams of sodium too. It's not hard to eat 5,000mg/sodium a day without intentionally adding a lot of salt to your meals just via "hidden" amounts.
- narag 9y agoThey mentioned whole salt... I was tempted to answer that I eat very little cheese and not much bread, but OK, this was about average and I have low blood pressure anyway. What I found extrange is that most people I know are much more concerned with salt intake than I am, often lecturing me that I should be using less salt, and then I read that I am using half of what's considered "current levels".
