Then the cashier needs to count it, and select the bills/coins to return, which then you need to figure where to put in your wallet. Pulling out the cell phone and unlocking it usually one step for me. Also, I have credit card for groceries (as that's where I use NFC most often) set as the default, so I don't open Google Pay to choose the card.
