Uh, are we just making stuff up now? Most accepted scientific consensus is GMOs are safe...

  It all comes down to your standard for safety. Potatoes that produce significantly more alkaloids would be more resistant to pests, but might become too poisonous for humans to eat. I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't call those GMOs safe. But of course that can also happen with classic selective breeding, so GMOs are not automatically less safe.
